Memorial Day: Two Haiku
They're heroes to us,
Yet families mourned their loss
-flags can't replace them.
We should remember,
They once belonged to someone
-who still misses them.

Why get to know you?
I can use your Myspace Page
-virtual friendship.

( Don't get me wrong folks. I have a Myspace page too-no judgements here. Still, I guess I'm just old fashioned enough that I prefer traditional friendships. The sad thing is, there are people for whom this the only way they can have a friend.)

Little Hobo
by Edward S. Gault
My mother pointed out to me,
As she helped me put on
The various parts of my hobo costume,
That winning a contest was not easy.
Other kids may have worked harder.
I should not get my hopes up, or
My expectations too high.
She did not want me to
Suffer the blow when I didn’t win.
Still, I carried home a blue ribbon that day.

Little Hobo was originally published last October.
When the teacher said
That I would not fit in there-you knew me better.

Many years ago,
You read to a little boy-no one believed in.

Uniforms can't measure us.
