When the teacher said
That I would not fit in there
-you knew me better.

xxxxxxxxxII
Many years ago,
You read to a little boy
-no one believed in.

xxxxxxxxxIII
You told me one day
Uniforms can't measure us.
-So much they don't say.

Little Hobo
by Edward S. Gault

My mother pointed out to me,
As she helped me put on
The various parts of my hobo costume,
That winning a contest was not easy.
Other kids may have worked harder.
I should not get my hopes up, or
My expectations too high.
She did not want me to
Suffer the blow when I didn’t win.
Still, I carried home a blue ribbon that day.
