Dragging heavy chains,
We sang old songs as sun baked
-slow death by chiggers.
Picnic blanket spread,
I read poetry to you
-breeze goes well with wine.
Hiking through woods,
We saw a deer in clearing
-looking back at us.
Sun shines on lush lawn,
Children run slow through sprinkler
-cold water soothing.
Small girl tugs Papa,
Bringing him to the park's swings
-her winged chariot.

One Single Impression: A Summer Day
Excellent scenes of summer, there.
ReplyDeleteA great set of images.
ReplyDeletethe last two are my favorites ---
ReplyDeleteBreezes do indeed go well with wine!
ReplyDeleteThe childhood images bring back good memories for me. Dad always called the sprinkler we used the "oscillating" sprinkler. That was my first big word.
I don't know which I enjoyed more, Edward! Actually, I do! I love the wine and poetry on a picnic blanket!
ReplyDeleteCertainly not the chiggers... they are dreadful, torturous creatures!
Last one is brilliant, liked all!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat amazingly sweet summer images (except for the chiggers, of course). Your sense of humor always appears!
ReplyDeleteThoughtful and romantic... I liked all of these. The girl tugging at her father's hand was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou've spread summer out before us like a fan of images, bugs and all! Very evocative!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is the deer looking back, like the season looking back, about to run..
ReplyDeletea swing as a 'winged chariot' is such a lovely sentiment
ReplyDeletei love the idea of a swing as a winged chariot. very nice.
