One Single Impression: Equals
Mabel stood her ground,
Met the sherriff's angry stare
-let my people vote!
Raj faced British guard,
Officer's truncheon came down
-returned two more times.
For living wages,
Employees spoke with one voice
-voting union.
She stared from the page,
Telling me her sad story
-so many children.
Dictator now dead,
People pulled down his statues
-now for Bill of Rights.
Taunted and teased,
Billy ran hard and won race
-special Olympics.

Right on, Edward. Free the People!
ReplyDeleteThese have a nice thread I like of oppression followed by relief or clamors for relief. The last is more distant from the others to my mind.
..
You spoke for so many here. Thanks. This is just too good.
ReplyDeleteEquals is such an abused notion.
ReplyDeleteCan't decide which is best - I suppose that's equality in action :-)
ReplyDeleteEquality is about fighting hard and winning--equality. Wonderful, Edward.
ReplyDeleteYour poems speak volumes! Well done, Edward!
ReplyDeleteEdward each poem is a book in and of itself! You took Equality around the world and back again! BRAVO!
ReplyDeleteYour eye and mind zero in on so much! Excellent variations on the prompt!
ReplyDeleteDear Edward--
ReplyDeleteThese are all excellent foot soldiers and put together they make a march towards justice...
Many thanks--

ReplyDeleteWow - equality is such a distant and ephemeral word. Well done haiku!
ReplyDeleteThese haiku cover so much ground so succinctly. Thanks for equating equality with justice and giving it a high profile.
ReplyDeleteFeed the people and give them justice; thank you for these stories - each so different yet equal.
ReplyDeleteit is good to remember the good, the bad and the ugly parts of history unfolding...
ReplyDeleteI love the march of equality I feel I'm taking as I read each one.
