The Things We Face

Money The Decider's face
stared down, admonishing us
-"Go shopping! Buy! Spend!"
(apologies to George Orwell)

United States Behind the scarred face,
was the boy she always knew
-her son, war hero.

Tombstone After she had died,
I saw her face everywhere
-god, the lonliness.

For One Single Impression

Murphy's Haiku will return on Tuesday

Your last verse brought tears.

Thanks, Edward. I found the second one especially gripping. To have a son so close and yet so far away. And vulnerable...

the last one's heartbreaking, loneliness seeps in without a word, hopefully the memories will stay to chase some loneliness away

..tenderly poignant.. beautiful..Thank U..

The last two are both deeply moving. The first taps into my shame at what my country now stands for and that we have let a moron have so much power for so long. The second speaks to that moron too and makes me angry and sad both.

The third speaks so purely to the pain of loss and the process of grief.

All three excellent.

Wonderful haiku all ... the last 'resonates' most deeply with me today.

Hi, Edward,
Your prompt "folly" comes up this week at OSI. Would you send me a poem and an image by Wednesday so I can prepare this post for next week? I will be away on vacation from Thursday and would like to have this all set.

God bless.

The things we face...
Sometimes it amazes me that we still open our eyes and walk through.
You made my chest swell.
thanks,

the decider... great term!!.. ouch, are we lead by the nose so easily... war definitely leaves a scar on a face once filled with youth... the death of a loved one is terribly painful and you have hit the mark on that one!... we forget sometimes abt the faces you have revealed here... thank you

From light-hearted to bittersweet and finishing with deep sorrow. Faces worn by many. I enjoyed your haiku immensely, Edward.

I'm looking forward to next week's prompt, suggested by you! My sister is already struggling with it! ;)

Overwhelming! The decider certainly cast his pall over the world. These faces are indelibly inked. Thank you!

Three good ones, Edward.
Could be called Sad, Sadder, Saddest.

I was touched by the eloquence and sadness of your poetry.

I like how you connected all three 'kus to the prompt. The last one especially was touching.
